When Juniper and her sister Odette were born, an astrologer predicted that Juniper’s success would one day drive Odette to her death. Their parents believe every word. For eighteen years, Juniper is punished for being smarter, working harder, and shining too brightly. On the day of the SAT, they take away her admission ticket and lock her inside a freezing industrial freezer, convinced her sacrifice will save Odette.
